More than 100 participants took part in the Oswegoland Park Districts 32nd Annual I Tried a Tri triathlon on Sunday. (Submitted photo)

The Civic Center was a proving ground this past Sunday.

As the Oswegoland Park District had the honor and delight of hosting the 32nd I Tried A Triathlon.  We saw 100 athletes test their mettle and celebrated when each crossed the finish line.  It was a wonderful morning and we were happy to be a part of it.

Our thanks to all our volunteers who came out to help as well as the Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriff's Office, and the Oswego Fire Protection District, Jimmy John’s, Meijer Foods, and Newsome Accelerated Rehabilitation for making the morning even better for athletes and their many fans.

Congratulations of Mark Luttrell of Orland Hill who was our Overall Male Finisher with a time of 33:06.  Keeping it a family affair, Mark’s wife Pauline Luttrell was our Overall Female Finisher with a time of 42:40.

The mission of the Oswegoland Park District is to create opportunities for a healthy community.  It is never more inspiring to work for such a goal as at the I Tried a Triathlon event.  We had elite athletes competing with themselves for a personal best.

There are athletes who make the event a tradition and have raced with the “I Tried A Triathlon Sprint for more than a decade.  We also hosted people who never considered themselves athletic.  Those athletes proved themselves wrong this week.

We were delighted to watch each and every participant on Sunday. The Oswegoland community is a wonderful and entertaining place to be healthy!  Our thanks to all the participants and their many fans!

Kristie Blocker Vest, Special Events Supervisor, Oswegoland Park District
