OHS Grad’s Artwork Featured at Chicago Museum

Oswego High School 2010 graduate and former National Art Honors Society President Kristopher Wright was selected as one of only 90 artists chosen nationally to participate in this year’s Black Creativity Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Ill.

This longest-running exhibition of African-American art has been displayed annually at the Museum of Science and Industry since 1970. The exhibition features paintings, drawings, fine art prints, sculpture, mixed-media, ceramics and photography by African Americans from around the country.

Work is submitted in the fall, and a panel of five jurors, led by Dr. Walter Massey, president of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Science and Industry trustee, select the pieces for exhibition. Of the four works Kristopher Wright had on display, his screen print titled THRONE took home the award for the best in print category.

This work, as do many of his others, seeks to create conversations about race and socioeconomic status, at the intersections of past and present. Kristopher Wright is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute with a bachelor’s degree in painting and printmaking, as well as a bachelor’s degree in arts education. He currently lives and works in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
