Residents of the Prescott Mill subdivision are on edge after a second shooting incident near their homes in the past five months.

Oswego Police reported Tuesday that a resident in the 200 block of Foster Drive found a bullet in an upstairs closet after shots were fired in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Police said they found a bullet hole in the back of the home and it’s believed it was shot from Wolf’s Crossing Road. No further evidence, including shell casings, had been found as of Tuesday afternoon, police said.

This comes after shots were also fired in the area in the early morning hours of Feb. 8. No homes were hit in that incident, and police said they believed the shooter was aiming at a coyote. In that case, several shell casings were found along the shoulder of Wolf’s Crossing. Both incidents occurred within a few hundred feet of each other.

Kimberly Schoenfeld, who lives near the home hit this week, appeared at Tuesday night’s Village Board meeting pleading for answers. Through tears, she said she fears for the safety of her children and is ready to move from the area.

“My fear is that it will take something tragic in order for this to get fixed,” Schoenfeld said. “… I feel trapped. … I haven’t slept in days. I’m asking what can be done so that I don’t have to live in fear.”

Police Chief Jeff Burgner, who said he’s not comfortable at this point in the investigation saying the two incidents are related, told Schoenfeld he has assigned the department’s criminal intelligence team to the case and has ordered increased patrols in the area.

Police canvased the area on Tuesday, and Burgner said they plan to interview more residents in hopes of getting more information. There are no suspects at this time, Burgner said.

“Obviously, I can’t change the way you feel,” Burger told Schoenfeld. “… (But) this is not normal for the community of Oswego, and this is very concerning to me personally.”

Evidence collected in February was sent to the State Police Crime Lab, and Burger said the bullet found this week will also be analyzed by the state.
