Jimmy John's Moving from Mason Square

Mar 13, 2014 09:01AM ● Published by Steven Jack

Oswego's Jimmy John's is set to move its location in the next few days.

According to franchise owner Dick Johnston, the shop will move a bit to the east to the shopping center with Petsmart and Aldi. The Mason Square location will close Sunday, March 16. The business will reopen at its new location at 340 Fifth St. Tuesday, March 18.

Johnston said the reason behind the move is that his franchise agreement ended with Jimmy John's on Dec. 31, as did his lease agreement with the owners of Mason Square.

Jimmy John's corporate is requiring design upgrades to new locations, Johnston said, and to accomplish that at the Mason Square location he would have had to close the business for 10 weeks and demolish the inside.

"We've spent 10 weeks building the new location," he said. "It's beautiful."

Johnston has owned the Oswego location since 2003. He is also owner of the Yorkville store.

Jimmy John's was founded in a garage in Charleston, IL in 1983 by Jimmy John Liautaud. Liautaud made good on a promise to move the company's headquarters from Champaign to Florida in 2012.
