CBS-2 Chicago is reporting the boy who was discovered in a retention pond in Boulder Hill early Monday afternoon has died.

Mohamed Qattum, 2, of the 200 block of Fernwood Road, was pronounced dead 2:06 p.m. Wednesday, the report said. He had been in critical condition at Loyola Medical Center.

Mohamed was pulled from a retention pond near his home at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to a home at about 12:15 p.m. for a report of a lost child. Deputies and an Oswego Police officer found the boy in critical condition a short time later in a retention pond near his home. He had wandered away from his family, the sheriff's office said.

Officers began to immediately perform CPR and were doing that when paramedics from the Oswego Fire Protection District arrived a short time later, said Dan Schiradelly, OFPD battalion chief. He was taken immediately to Rush-Copley Medical Center, Schiradelly said.
