The Oswego Hobby Lobby store could be open as early as October.
Village officials said Tuesday afternoon work will begin in the coming weeks to subdivide the former Lowe’s location into at least two retail locations. Hobby Lobby will occupy a 55,000-square-foot unit. About 60,000 square feet will remain for at least one more future tenant.
Oswego Partners bought the former Lowe’s building in January, and will spend about $2.5 million total to prepare the building for occupancy, said Al Krieger, an Oswego Partners representative. Krieger said his company will work to bring another national retailer to the location.
“We will do whatever it takes to bring the goods and services that residents need,” Krieger said.
Hobby Lobby will employ 35-50 employees, paying them any where from $9.50 (part-time) to $14 per hour. If the store is unable to open in October, Gadde said it will be delayed six months.
