Celebrate Differences held its Annual 5k Run/Walk "Steps Toward a Brighter Future" on Sunday, April 27.  Celebrating its third year, the 5k Run/Walk attracted a record breaking number of participants from surrounding communities.

"We are thankful to the more than 300 runners, walkers, volunteers and sponsors that still came out to participate despite the cold weather," said Rebecca Christiansen, founder and president, Celebrate Differences. "The funds raised will help us continue to provide much needed programs for our many Celebrate Differences children with disabilities and their families."

CARA certified and professionally timed, this 5K Race took runners through the heart of downtown Oswego on a USATF-IL certified course.  This year's first place male overall medalist, Dwight Nelson crossed the finish line at 18 minutes and 41 seconds. Isabelle Christiansen was the overall first place female medalist with a time of 21 minutes and 54 seconds. For more race results visit www.itsracetime.com.

This family-friendly event offered an array of activities for runners, walkers, family and friends of all ages. 95.9 The River provided musical entertainment and Firehouse Pizza & Pub, Oswego hosted a post race party for participants.  Additional 5k sponsors included Knutte & Associates, Road Runner Sports, Thrivent Financial Chicagoland Financial Associates, Law Elder Law, Pet Supplies Plus and Walgreens(Oswego). Michele Zappa of Zappa Studios donated photography services.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was Jodi Lange of Oswego.
