Skittles Production Headed for Kendall County

The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. manufacturing plant that already employs 300 workers in Yorkville will add 75 more jobs as it brings on Skittles to its roster of candy products made in Kendall County.

According to a report in the Wednesday Chicago Tribune, Wrigley plans to spend about $50 million to expand the Yorkville plant to begin producing the brightly colored candy by 2016.
Total average salary for the new jobs added at the plant will be about $70,000, the Tribune reported.

The 145,000-square-foot expansion is made possible by $2 million in tax incentives through state's Economic Development for a Growing Economy program. Wrigley also will receive about $275,000 in other grants to help pay for construction and job training, the Tribune reported.

“Yorkville has been the proud home of the Wrigley manufacturing facility since 1995 and we are very excited about the expansion of the facility to accommodate the worldwide growth of Skittles,” said Yorkville Mayor Gary Golinski.

The Yorkville plant will be the sixth production facility for Skittles worldwide. Lifesavers, Juicy Fruit gum and Doublemint gum are currently produced at the plant.
