Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn broke ground Friday on a railroad overpass on Route 34 in Aurora.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the $27,000,000 project is meant to reduce traffic delays and improve emergency vehicle response times on Route 34 at the EJ&E/CN Railroad about 1.5 miles west of Route 59.

The proposed bridge structure will be about 253 feet long and 97 feet wide, and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2016. It was originally proposed in 2011.

Check the project's website for periodic construction updates. .
