Unlocked Cars Make Perfect Target for Thieves

Scott Mills, 41 of 29 Old Post Road, in Oswego Township was charged with DUI at about midnight July 19 after Kendall County Sheriff's deputies said he ran into three parked cars in the 0-99 block of Old Post Road. Deputies said they found Mills' car parked on the lawn of a home in the area when they arrived on the scene.
Rented electronics stolen
A resident in the 100 block of Harbor Drive was the victim a theft of a rented television set and Wii game system sometime before 11:30 a.m. July 19, according to a Kendall County Sheriff’s office report. The television was valued at $600 and the Wii $300. There are suspects in this theft, the sheriff’s office said.
Ryan Dockstader, 22, of Yorkville, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage at about 9:20 p.m. July 19 at Orchard and Mill roads, according to an Oswego Police report.
Afredo Betancourt-Cabeza, 33, of the 100 block of Beauwick Drive, Oswego Township, was charged with domestic battery at about 2:45 a.m. July 19 at his home, according to a Kendall County Sheriff’s office report. It’s alleged Betancourt-Cabeza hit a family member, causing minor injuries. He was taken to the Kendall County Jail.
A resident in the 0-99 block of Partridge Square reported someone stole her wallet from her purse while it was in her unlocked vehicle sometime before 11 a.m. July 18, according to an Oswego Police report. A small amount of cash and several credit cards were in the wallet at the time, police said.
A purse and its contents valued at about $730 were reported stolen from a small party at about 5 p.m. July 18 in the 0-99 block of Franklin Street, according to an Oswego Police report.
Two male juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property after an incident at about 7:30 p.m. July 18 near Douglas Road and Route 30, according to an Oswego Police report.
A resident of Adams Street near Jackson reported to Oswego Police that someone broke out two windows of her vehicle sometime before 12:40 p.m. July 18. The damage is estimated at $400.
A juvenile was charged with a curfew violation at about midnight July 18 after a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Route 30, according to a Kendall County Sheriff’s office report. The juvenile was a passenger in the car that originally was pulled over for not having a license plate light.
Two 17-year-old boys were charged with possession of marijuana at about 2 a.m. July 17 near Boulder Hill Pass and Lombardy Lane, according to an Oswego Police report. One of the boys also was charged with drug paraphernalia possession, police said.
Natisha Amann, 20, of 300 Lombard Lane, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor at about 4 a.m. July 17 at her home, according to an Oswego Police report.
Oswego Police are investigating a theft from a home in the 400 block of Knights Bridge Court that occurred sometime before 9:30 p.m. July 16. Value of the items stolen from the home was estimated at $600.
Oswego Police responded to the 200 block of Grays Drive at about 7 p.m. July 15 for a report of a tablet stolen from an unlocked vehicle. The value of the tablet was estimated at $300.
Unlawful use of a weapon
John Lawrence, of 16 Boat Lane in Oswego Township was charged with DUI, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest at about 8:40 p.m. July 15 at Route 34 and Little Rock Road in Little Rock Township, according to a Kendall County Sheriff’s office report. The report said Lawrence was swerving in the roadway before being stopped. He was later taken to the Kendall County Jail.
Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 0-99 block of Guilford Road at about 5:30 p.m. July 14 for a report of an attempted break-in. Nothing was stolen, but a burglar had attempted to gain access to the home through a damaged window, the sheriff’s office said.
Contractors working on homes in the Churchill subdivision reported the theft of more than $700 worth of lumber from home sites sometime before 11:50 a.m. July 14, according to Oswego Police.
A 12-year-old Oswego boy was charged with attempted retail theft from Best Buy on July 14, according to an Oswego Police report. The value of the stolen item is valued at about $34.
Michael Jenkins, 52, of Aurora, was charged with DUI at about 12:45 a.m. July 12 near Route 34 and Chicago Road, according to an Oswego Police report. He was given an Aug. 18 court date.
