Dominick's Gas Station Demolished for New Development

Aug 05, 2014 06:18PM ● Published by Steven Jack

Demolition began earlier this week on the former Dominick's gas station at Route 34 and Douglas Road.

Those driving down Route 34 this week surely have noticed the disappearance of the former Dominick’s gas station at Douglas Road.

Vijay Gadde, the village’s economic development director, said Northbrook-based GMX Real Estate has purchased the property from Dominick's parent company Safeway, and plans to develop a small strip center.

Crews will spend the next few weeks removing the gasoline tanks from the lot to prepare it for the 10,000-square-foot development.

It's too soon to know what kind of stores the strip will include, but Gadde said it will be marketed for at least one restaurant.

“It could be a sit-down, fast casual or drive-through,” Gadde said.
