A 20-year-old Bristol man is facing a weapons charge after being stopped for driving nearly 40 mph over the speed limit near Route 30 and Briarcliff Road, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's report.

Zachary Held, of 7764 Galena Road, Bristol, was stopped at about 10:15 a.m. Monday for driving 84 mph through the 45 mph construction zone with workers present, the report said.

A search of his vehicle turned up a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun behind the center console and a loaded firearm magazine in the glove box, the sheriff's office said.

Held was charged with speeding and unlawful use of a weapon because he is not old enough to possess a handgun under state statute, the sheriff's office said. The legal age to own a handgun in Illinois is 21.

Held was taken to the Kendall County Jail.
