In his announcement, Michels touted a record of "spending residents tax dollars responsibly, opposing tax and water rate increases, providing a safe community, maintaining reliable public services and building a vision for the future."

Michels joins trustees Gail Johnson and Tony Giles in the campaign. Both announced their candidacies last month. The next municipal election will take place April 7, 2015.

As village president, Michels said he plans to take a principled leadership position.

"As our future faces challenges similar to years past I will continue to use successful solutions that have proven to work well," Michels said. "Principled leadership, which I have demonstrated solving new challenges in the last eight years, will be necessary in the coming years."

Karin McCarthy-Lange and Ryan Kaufmann announced last month they will seek election to two of three open trustee seats held my MIchels, Giles and Johnson.
