A middle school social studies and language arts teacher has announced his candidacy for the Oswego School District 308 School Board.

Jared Ploger, 38, is a parent of two students in District 308, and a resident of Aurora. He said he's running to restore public trust in the school board, which he said has been eroded for the past four years.

“The decision to pull out of the special education co-op is a prime example,” Ploger said. “They did this without having any real plan in place for our most vulnerable kids — without even talking to the parents until after the fact. They ultimately had to put it off a year because they put our co-op partners in such a bad spot.”

Ploger also called for more transparency from the district's administration and a change in what he called a "top down" management style "
so that the input of parents and teachers is included in decision-making."

Ploger founded the Father’s Forum at Long Beach Elementary School, and is active with the Home and School Organization at Hunt Club Elementary School and with district’s Bilingual Parents Advisory Council.

He is a graduate of Somonauk High School, Northern Illinois University and Olivet Nazarene University. He is a teacher at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook.
