UPDATED AT 4:45 P.M. TUESDAY
Oswego East High School student Maria Torres Martinez was found unharmed at about 2:40 p.m. Oct. 7 in Morningside, Maryland, which is a suburb of Washington D.C.
According to Oswego Police Capt. Jeff Burgner, the 16-year-old was found by Morningside Police at a home in the area. She is currently in the custody of Morningside Police, Burgner said.
Burgner said the investigation is ongoing, and it has yet to be determined how Maria traveled to Maryland.
"Typically in runaway cases like this the investigation is picked up by the department where the person is found," Burgner said. "We'll try to meet with the family to get more information if and when she returns to town."
