Brad Banks announced his candidacy Thursday, saying his top priority is restoring District 308's reputation for excellent schools.
“The district’s once respectable reputation has been diminished by four years of employee turn-over, top-down management tactics and disrespect for parents, teachers and the community,” Banks said. “Administrators are not asking for teacher input when it comes to new initiatives. Mandates are handed down with little guidance for implementation. We need more collaboration.”
Banks said he's also concerned about incentive-laden employment contracts signed with Superintendent Matthew Wendt and other top administrators that award bonuses for reaching goals that would be considered part of their jobs in other districts. That money would be better spent to "recruit skilled and proficient teachers," he said.
Aside from his work with the Marine Corps as a data systems chief, Banks is also a business development manager for EMC Corp. The Oswego resident grew up in Kansas City, Mo. and is married with three children.
