Citing the huge population grown in the past 15 years, Nerd Wallet says the village has become its own economic entity with "no signs of slowing." The study reports an expected population of 69,000 by the year 2040.
"Despite this exponential growth, the city maintains a sense of community with events such as Wine on the Fox, PrairieFest weekend celebration and Brew at the Bridge craft beer festival," the study says.
Nerd Wallet ranked 214 Illinois' towns based on the following criteria:
- Home affordability — Median home value and selected monthly homeowner costs
- Prosperity and growth — Current and past family incomes were used to calculate prosperity of residents, as well as the projected long-term growth of each city.
- Quality of education — Ratings from GreatSchools.org were used to study education
- Family friendliness — The percentage of families with school-age children and the poverty rate for young children. This measure helps determine if an area is not only affordable for families, but if it is also a healthy one for children.
