Oswego School District 308 Board President Bill Walsh has formally filed paperwork as a write-in candidate for the Tuesday, April 7, election.

Walsh dropped out of the race Jan. 8 after objections were raised to his nominating petitions by the husband of fellow board member and candidate Alison Swanson.

"I'm running as a write-in because I want to give the voters an opportunity to decide who should serve on the School Board," Walsh said Thursday morning. "The district is on the right path, and I think there will be some great opportunities going forward."

In January, Walsh said he decided to drop out after reviewing his petitions and noticing he had left key parts of his paperwork blank.

"By submitting the withdraw, I am avoiding the costs that the wonderful citizens of Kendall County will otherwise incur to have the Election Board ... meet, discuss, possibly have a second meeting, time preparing a written decision, as well as the cost of a court room," Walsh said at the time.

Walsh said he plans to attend and hopes to take part in upcoming School Board candidate forums.
