Murphy Junior High and CrossFit Plainfield partnered to raise $3,000 to help St. Baldrick’s fight childhood cancer on Saturday, Feb. 14. Over 200 men, women and children from throughout the greater Chicagoland area came to CrossfFit Plainfield to workout for charity.

The 15-minute workout was called “Cupid’s Chipper.”  It consisted of participants completing 214 repetitions (in honor of Valentine’s Day – 2/14) of nine different movements including:  push ups, pull ups, air squats and push press. If teams completed those moves, they moved on to a 2015 meter row.  Whether a CrossFit beginner or veteran, the workout challenged everyone.

Special thanks go out to CrossFit Plainfied owner Scott Romijn, coach Jacqie Seyller and Murphy Assistant Principal Jen Wikoff for their donations of time, resources and money to organize this amazing event. Also, thank you to all the CrossFit coaches and members who volunteered their time during the event to make it run so smoothly.

Thank you to event sponsors:  Roselyn Reyes from Reaction Nutrition, the guys at Simple Duos Nutrition Bars, Dale Hastert from UR the Answer – Nutrition and Supplements, and Katherine Fontillas and Michelle Robinson for the delicious post-workout cupcakes and krispie treats.

Thank you also to Josh and Brittany Page and the crew from Reckless CrossFit in Plano for their support, as well as coach Colleen Kilduff and the Mother McCauley Softball Team for filling up the event.

Known for their head shaving events, The St. Baldrick’s Foundation brings awareness to the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1999 The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised over $100 million to fight childhood cancer. Murphy raised nearly $20,000 for St. Baldrick’s childhood cancer research last year.
