Letter: Lightfoot Has a Record of Asking District Administration Tough Questions

I would like to voice my support for Brent Lightfoot for the upcoming SD 308 School Board election.
Since his election to the BOE, he has continually fought to raise academic standards while holding the line on district spending. Brent has an excellent track record for asking the tough questions of the administration before he agrees to move forward with anything they are seeking approval.
Brent fought to stop the building of the third high school saving the district hundreds of millions of dollars in both construction and operating costs. He has fought to keep spending in the district down and told administration they must live within their budget with no increase. He has encouraged the district to find new ways to finance projects including grants and P-cards to cut spending within the district.
As far as academics, he proposed that the district find a way to pay for our students to take AP tests and having the district pay for those test thus increasing the number of students taking those classes.
He was a key member of the board of education that facilitated studies for AT/Gifted Education which saw an increase in the number of days students now see those teachers. He has pushes to raise the academic standards that will guide us to the ACT of 24 by 2020 while holding the line on costs.
Please make sure to go and vote on April 7th to retain Brent Lightfoot to the Board of Education.
