Cooks' Savannah at Old Post Park
This Saturday, April 18 will be a beautiful day and there are plenty of activities around town to put a spring in your step.
The Oswegoland Park District is preparing Jaycee Park for a future dog park project, so this Saturday will be all hands on deck to clean the area. Volunteers assisting in prepping for the puppy playground will be cleaning the creek, clearing the brush, removing weeds, and marking low areas. This can be “ruff” work, so please bring gloves.
The Park District is asking for help from 9:00-11am on what looks like a beautiful day. After the group has finished, we’ll reward our efforts to further Fido Field for the dogs with some hot dogs and lemonade!
Another crew of dedicated volunteers will be planting native plants and shrubs at Cooks' Savannah at Old Post Park from 9:00am-1:00pm. These conservation projects are a great way to tune into nature for Earth Day.
After a morning of service, treat yourself to some art! Kendall County’s annual Town & Country Art Show will be held at the Park District’s Little White School Museum located at 72 Polk Street in Oswego. The exhibit of original art produced by local amateur adult and student artists will be open to the public from 12-4 pm. The public is encouraged to stop in for a visit and check out the talent that will be showcased at this free event.
Don Plocher, winner of the 2014 Best of Show, will be this year’s featured artist. Viktorija Biskyte has been selected as the jurist for the 2015 Town & Country Art Show. Ms. Biskyte is an art teacher at Boulder Hill Elementary School. She will present her critique at 1:00 pm on Saturday for artists and the public who are interested in hearing her comments.
Music will be provided throughout the afternoon by the student musicians from the Fox River Academy of Music & Art, located in Oswego. They will also have supplies on hand for a community art project for aspiring artists to join in the creative process. Members of the Quilters Dozen will demonstrate their art as they work to complete the 2015 PrairieFest quilt. Raffle tickets for a chance to win the prize quilt will be available to purchase.
