John Cronsell of Oswego has been through a lot lately.

First, the 45 year-old father of two has been battling throat cancer since last year. If that weren’t enough, in January he suffered an unexpected complication and was unable to breathe for an extended period, causing damage to his brain. He’s also been in two comas within the past six months.

“He needs around the clock care which his family can't afford. They don't have any family to help them and are struggling to get by,” said friend Brad Wagner.

Cronsell continues to wage a battle for his health on two fronts — the first removing the cancer from his larynx and the other rehabbing from the brain injury. He is driven daily to Chicago for treatment.

“He has a tracheotomy and is tube fed,” Wagner said. “He has a huge tumor on his voice box, so he is on chemo and radiation at this time, hoping the tumor will shrink so it can be removed. If not, he could lose his voice for good. John is also going through physical therapy to be able to walk again and he also can hardly see and is also unable to write to communicate.”

To help Cronsell and his long-time partner Angela Amwoza with traveling expenses and household support, a GoFundMe page has been set up. About $1,000 of a $2,500 goal has been raised so far.

Another fundraiser is also scheduled for 4 p.m. to midnight Saturday, June 13, at 815 Route 31. Tickets are  $20 per adult and $10 per child. Tickets include admission, food, and drink. (Water, soda, beer). There will be live music. There also will be a bags tournament starting at 5:30 p.m., as well as three 50/50 raffles at 6, 8,& 10 p.m. Jello shots and mixed drinks will also be available.
