The Oswego Public Library will celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting Saturday, Sept. 12.
Along with setting a date for a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the expanded facility, the library announced the closure in an email to patrons on Wednesday. The Youth Services Department will close for an additional week. The following is a list of closure dates:
- Saturday, Aug. 17 The Youth Services Department will close
- Monday, Aug. 24 The entire Oswego campus will close
- Tuesday, Sept. 8 The newly expanded library will re-open
- Saturday, Sept. 12 The library will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration from noon to 3 p.m.
The library addition has been under construction over a year. The project includes about 4,000 square feet added to the first floor in the children's wing with a new program room and learning area for preschoolers. An 8,700-square-foot second story also was added. The upstairs includes more room for teens and a meeting room with enough space for 50.
The Library District did not take on additional debt to construct the addition. Funding has come from impact fees collected from developers in previous years and money saved by the district.
