Long-Time Downtown Business on the Move

The owners of Floral Expressions and Lil' Emm's Boutiques closed on the building at 26 Main St. on Wednesday.

One of downtown Oswego's most popular shops is moving. Don't worry, though, it's only across the street and down a block.

The owners of both Floral Expressions and Gifts and Lil' Emm's Boutique, have purchased the building once occupied by Oswego Cyclery at 26 Main St. and will move both stores to the new location in the coming months.

"We've been in business since 2001, and we've always really liked being downtown and knew we wanted to stay down here, said Megan Dell'Aringa, who co-owns the shop with her mother Terri Platt. "As our business has grown, we've always been kind of been eyeing that location, and when it came open after the bike shop moved, we just kind of had to jump on it."

Dell'Aringa said another big reason for the move is the dedicated parking lot attached to the store — something rare for a business in Downtown Oswego. Plans are to not only use the lot for parking, but for events like the Christmas Walk and for a touch-a-truck experience at the upcoming Fox Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The purchase is the third major development downtown in recent months. Oswego Cyclery owner Art Black purchased and rehabbed the Old Fire Barn, moving his business earlier this summer. Shortly after, business woman Kandra Witkowski purchased the vacant lot adjacent to the new Oswego Cyclery and has plans to turn it into a food truck lot called Eat Street Oswego.

"We're excited about staying in downtown Oswego," Dell'Aringa said. "We like the small town feel, and I think there's a ton of potential. It could use some more development, but it has to start somewhere."

The new Floral Expressions and Lil' Emm's should be open by late to mid-October, and there are plans to hold moving sales every weekend in September,  Dell'Aringa said.
