Texas-Based Chain Locating in Former Applebee's Location

Work continued this week to convert the old Route 30 Applebee's location into the new 9er's Grill.

A small Texas-based chain of restaurants will open its first Illinois location this fall in the former Applebee's location along Route 30 in Montgomery.

9er's Grill is a family owned business headquartered in Richmond, Texas with five locations in the Houston area.  The chain, which was founded in 1991, serves a full restaurant menu, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. The company takes its name from its specialty — 9-ounce handmade burgers.

The Montgomery Village Board approved the location in January, including a 15-year, $150,000 sales tax rebate incentive to aid in the redevelopment of the area.

Charlene Coulombe-Fiore, the village's economic development director, said the owners hope to have the restaurant open sometime in October.

The location has sat empty since Applebee's closed in the summer of 2013. 9er's Grill purchased the building in March for $900,000. According to reports, the chain's owners hope to open several other Chicago locations.
