What better way to remember the first responders who paid the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11 2001 than a charity fundraiser held in their name?

CrossFit Oswego will host its Fourth Annual 9/11 343 WOD event from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at its location at 39 Stonehill Road. It is open to the public and will include a Presentation of the Colors and performance by the Oswego Fire Department Pipes and Drum band at 6 p.m.

The 343 in 343 WOD is a nod to the 343 firefighters who died in the 9/11 attacks.

"We felt a strong drive to use this collection of people who wanted to be more involved (our CFO crew) and try to create an event that honored the fallen, showed appreciation for our local first responders and raised money for charity," writes CFO owners Joe and Gina Miranda on their blog.

The 343 WOD leads adult and child participants through a series of intense CrossFit challenges while wearing first-responder gear in tribute of the fallen. Those wishing to complete the challenges do not need to be CrossFit members.

This year, the Mirandas are expecting more than 250 participants to raise money for three charities — Wounded Wodders, The Noah's Arc Foundation and the Kendall County Food Pantry. Those not participating in the challenges can still contribute by purchasing a $25 Never Forget T-shirt or tank top available at the event.

Sponsors for this year's 9/11 343 WOD are Integrated Physical Medicine, Cinderella Paleo, UR, 3-2-1 Apparel, Tap House Grill and Kill Cliff.
