New Oswego Kiwanis Receives Charter

The Kiwanis Club of Oswego was presented their charter from Kiwanis International by Jim Dooley, Governor of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District at their Charter Celebration on Thursday, Sept. 3.

The Kiwanis Club of Oswego was presented their charter from Kiwanis International by Jim Dooley, Governor of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District at their Charter Celebration on Thursday, Sept. 3. 

The event was celebrated at the Fox Bend Golf Course Pavilion by members, local officials, Aurora and Naperville Kiwanis members, Jim Dooley, and Penny Linneweh Governor-Elect of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District. 

Kiwanis of Oswego formed in June of this year and currently has 27 charter members. The club is dedicated to providing programs for the benefit of the children of Oswego. In its inaugural year, the club is focused on implementing Kiwanis programs in local schools, including Bringing Up Grades (BUG) in elementary schools and Key Clubs at the high schools. Additionally, the club is partnering with Young Hearts 4 Life to provide EKGs to high school students at both Oswego and Oswego East. 

One of the club’s first fundraising efforts will be at the Brew at the Bridge on Saturday, September 19. The club will be selling Kuipers cider and donuts as well as pretzel necklaces. Kiwanis is known internationally for their Peanut Day. Volunteers will be at the Jewel located on Route 30 collecting donations for peanuts on Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19. 

Kiwanis of Oswego meets twice a month: on the second Tuesday at noon at Tap House Grill and on the fourth Tuesday at 7 pm at the Oswego High School Community Room.
