The current police station was built in 1991 and was intended to last 20 years and hold up to 50 employees. The growth of the Village combined with design limitations caused the police department to outgrow the facility within the first decade of its occupancy.
The department now stands at 69 full and part-time employees. In addition to the current station's lack of employee space, the property where it sits has no room for the construction of an addition or parking lot expansion.
The public is invited to a guided tour and observe the day-to-day operations of the Oswego Police Department from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 26.
The building is located at 3525 Route 34, across from the Fox Bend Golf Course. Tours should take about 30 minutes. Tours will be given on a first come first serve basis and no appointment is necessary on the date of the event.
