Each year the Oswego Fire Protection District awards two $500 scholarships. The application period is now open and applications are due no later than April 30, 2016.

Two outstanding high school seniors will be chosen to receive a $500
scholarship to be used at an institution of higher learning. Applications and Guidelines  can be located at www.oswegofire.com or picked up at Oswego Fire Station #1 located at 3511 Woolley Rd, Oswego, ILL, 60543. The application is also available as a .pdf attached to the top of this article.

The OFPD scholarships are given in honor of a member of the Fire Protection District that has shown exemplary service to the people of the communities the district serves. This year, Retired Chief Rick Neitzer is being honored.

He dedicated his life to serving the
people of the District in a variety of capacities. Neitzer started his career in 1979 and served as a firefighter for over 35 years. In 1987, Chief Neitzer came to the OFPD as one of the original six full-time firefighter/paramedics. He moved through the ranks and became the Fire Chief in 2011.

Those with questions regarding the scholarships can call Capt. John Cornish at 630-554-2110.
