Mr. Craig’s Graphic Art Classes at Thompson Jr. High hosted guest artist, Joel Feliciano, an artist from Elgin, to talk to students about graffiti Oct. 22.
Graffiti and graffiti culture is becoming more mainstream and popular among contemporary artists and designers, and the class is currently learning about commissioned graffiti and how color and symbolism is used to create dynamic artwork.
With Feliciano, students explored how being a commissioned artist is both a career option and a path to utilize one’s talents in a positive way.
Feliciano has been creating graffiti murals for over 10 years. His small scale and large graffiti artworks inspired students to further push the boundaries of what art can be and how they can inspire the world around them with a positive message.
By offering his time and talents to give back, he has sparked the interest of many students in the building and left both an encouraging and lasting impression on them.
