SNAPSHOT: Students Knit Hats for Local Nonprofit

Nov 09, 2015 09:18PM ● Published by Steven Jack

Maggie Wilmes and Amanda Darling together knitted 182 hats for local nonprofit Sawyer's Heart.

Seven and eighth-grade Thompson Junior High students in Angela Robinson's 3-D Art classes recently hand-knitted and donated over 230 baby hats to Channahon-based nonprofit, Sawyer's Heart Project.

This is Thompson's fourth year participating in Sawyer's Heart Project, which supports bereaved parents who have experienced a pregnancy loss, stillbirth or the loss of an infant.

As part of their Fiber Arts Unit, students are encouraged to knit additional hats on circle looms and contribute to this on-going community service project.

Maggie Wilmes achieved Top Knitter status by breaking the previously held record, single-handedly knitting 110 baby hats in two weeks. Amanda Darling knitted 72.
