Kendall County Sheriff Warns of Latest Telephone Scam

Dec 11, 2015 11:10AM ● Published by Steven Jack

The Kendall County Sheriff’ Office recently became aware of a telephone scam which may lead
to the potential for a residential burglary or other crime to occur.

Residents have reported
receiving a telephone call where the person on the other line tells them that there is a problem with their home security system. When the resident responds that they do not have a home security system, the person on the other line disconnects.

While there have been no reports of residential burglaries or other crimes being committed after someone has received this type of call, the Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to never give any type of information over the telephone or by any other means unless they have verified who is requesting the information.

If you receive a suspicious telephone call or email, you can
file an online report through the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which is a federal agency equipped to handle these types of incidents. For more information on the FTC or to file a report, go to https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov. Citizens may also contact their local police agency for assistance.
