National Weather Service Warning of Winter Storm for Monday

Dec 27, 2015 08:06PM ● Published by Steven Jack

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Kendall County beginning at 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the NWS, sleet, freezing rain and strong winds are predicted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Sleet and freezing rain will develop Monday morning and gradually turn to rain by the afternoon. Winds of 25 to 35 mph are predicted with possible gusts of up to 50 mph.
A combination of ice accumulation and high winds could cause downed tree limbs and power lines throughout the area. Power outages could be "significant," the NWS said.

Both the Oswego Police and Kendall County Sheriff's Office urged anyone traveling on Monday to use caution on area roadways.

If you must travel, please make the following preparations:
  • Make sure your vehicle is full of gas prior to departure.
  • Make sure your cellular phone is charged and you have a charger.
  • Pack a winter weather kit containing: Blankets or sleeping bags, flashlight with extra batteries, first aid kit, food, water, extra clothing, shovel, tool kit, battery booster cables, compass, road maps, and sand or cat litter for traction.
  • Make sure a family member or trusted friend knows where you are going, and the route you plan on taking. Advise them when you are leaving, and when you plan on returning.
