Feb 04, 2016 08:50PM ● Published by Steven Jack

Mutual Ground, Inc., in collaboration with the Kendall County State's Attorney and the Circuit Clerk of Kendall County, are proud to announce the opening of an advocacy office in the Kendall County Courthouse.  Beginning February 1, 2016, Mutual Ground will be on-site at the courthouse providing advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new advocacy office will take place at 3p.m. on February 17th at the Kendall County Courthouse, located at 807 John St, Yorkville, IL 60560.

“Mutual Ground is thrilled to be working in collaboration with the Kendall County Circuit Clerk, Sherriff, and State’s Attorney’s Office to better serve the needs of victims of domestic and sexual violence in this county. We are very grateful to the Kendal County Board for allowing us this space in which to work and for voting to move forward with this collaborative effort” said Michelle Meyer, executive director, Mutual Ground, Inc.

The civil and criminal court system can often be overwhelming and difficult to navigate, especially for individuals whose lives have been impacted by domestic violence or sexual assault.  Mutual Ground court advocates will assist victims in preparing paperwork for Orders of Protection, provide support during civil and criminal court proceedings and offer referrals to appropriate community resources.  All services are free of charge and available M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Appointments are not required.

In 2015, Mutual Ground provided 1027 hours of civil and criminal legal advocacy to 224 residents of Kendall County.
