For the second consecutive year, Oswego gold-medal winning Paralympian Joe Berenyi has been crowned World Champion.

Berenyi won gold in the men’s C3 individual 3-Kilo pursuit and 1km time trial this weekend at the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Montichiari, Italy. Berenyi also won the World Championship in the C3 Kilo at last year's competition in Appeldoorn, the Netherlands.

“It’s awesome,” Berenyi said in a Team USA report. “All the hard training has paid off and I feel like I'm in a good place leading up to Rio.”

Berenyi will compete in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in September. He won Gold, Silver and Bronze at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

The past 12 months have been successful for the Oswego resident and Aurora native. In December Berenyi was named the United States Olympic Committee Male Paralympian of the Year. He also was nominated for an ESPN ESPY Award last summer.
