Oswego Economic Development Director Vijay Gadde had been with the village since 2013.
The Village of Oswego is preparing to hire its third economic development director in five years.
Village President Gail Johnson confirmed Friday that Economic Development Director Vijay Gadde is no longer with the village. Johnson said she could not comment further, saying, “That is all I can tell you at the moment.”
Reached by phone Friday, Gadde also declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding his departure, but said he had not yet signed documents given to him by the village.
Gadde was hired in February 2013, replacing Tony Lucenko, who held the position for just over a year. Lucenko was hired in September 2011 following the dissolution of the Oswego Economic Development Corp., and left in October 2012.
Johnson said village staff are beginning work on a job posting for the position. The board will likely vote to approve the posting at its April 19 meeting, she said.
She acknowledged the frequent turnover in the economic development director position.
“We’ve gone through a few, so we want to get this right,” Johnson said. “We don’t want to rush it. Economic development is pivotal for us right now.”
In the interim, Johnson said Community Development Director Rod Zenner and Village Administrator Dan Di Santo are handling economic development-related issues.
“They’ve already put together a transition plan,” she said.
During Gadde's time in Oswego, the village welcomed several new businesses to town, including DSW Shoe Warehouse, Hobby Lobby and Andy's Frozen Custard, which is scheduled to open later this year at Route 34 and Fifth Street.
