Oswego Business Hit by Utility Scam: Police

Joel Castillo, 23, of the 1000 block of Ivy Lane, Montgomery, was arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident at about 4:10 a.m. April 9, near Route 30 and Dickson Road, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. The sheriff's office said Castillo ran a nearby stop sign and his car ran into a ditch. Castillo was found a short distance from his vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
Fight on a bus
The Kendall County Sheriff's Office is investigating a battery that occurred on a school bus at about 3:30 p.m. April 9. An 11-year-old boy and a 10-year-old boy were said to be involved, the sheriff's office said.
A business owner in the 0-99 block of West Washington Street reported being scammed out of $500 April 8 after someone called the business saying a utility bill hadn't been paid, and service would be shutoff if not paid. Oswego Police are investigating.
Hit and run
Someone ran over a speed sign and struck a fire hydrant sometime overnight April 7-8 in the 130 block of Circle Drive East, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. No suspects have been identified, the sheriff's office said.
Fight at school
Oswego Police responded to Thompson Junior High at about 4:15 p.m. April 5 for a report of a fight that had occurred between two students at about 12:45 p.m. that day. No arrests were made, but injuries were sustained during the fight, police said.
Daniel Cid Jr., 18, of the 0-99 block of Rocky Way, was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at about 10 p.m. April 5 in the 1000 block of Douglas Road, according to an Oswego Police report.
Zackary Cherry, 24, of the 7000 block of Grove Road, was arrested for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia at about 10:20 p.m. April 4 at the Oswego Walmart, according to an Oswego Police report. He is alleged to have stolen about $235 in merchandise, police said.
A home in the 0-99 block of Circle Drive East was entered and damaged with a gallon of paint that was poured about the home sometime before 4 p.m. April 4, according to a Kendall County Sheriff's Office report. There are no suspects in the incident.
Oswego Police are investigating the theft of a television from an RV that was parked in the 0-99 block of Stonehill Road. The theft occurred sometime before 2 p.m. April 3, police said.
