U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) has announced the 14th District winner of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition.
Oswego High School student Anne Jakubowski of Montgomery, is the winner with her piece “Uncle Cubby,” which won out of the 28 entries submitted from across the district. Anne used oil pastels and colored pencils for her close-up portrait, which will hang on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year. As winner, Anne also receives two roundtrip plane tickets to Washington, D.C to attend Washington festivities.
“We had a fantastic group of participants this year, and I encourage everyone to look at the gallery of participants,” said Rep. Hultgren. “I again want to wish congratulations to Anne and the honorable mentions for their hard work—and for everyone for putting the talent of the 14th Congressional District on full display. I look forward to see how these students will use their talents in future careers, for personal enjoyment and for the good of the community.”
The winner was announced at an evening reception attended by nearly 100 parents, students, teachers and interested community members at Oswego High School on Friday featuring music from the Oswego High School Jazz Ensemble and appetizers provided by the Culinary Arts Department of Oswego High School.
Honorable mentions include:
- Lauren Frank of Oswego and Oswego High School for her entry, “Sister,” a graphite and charcoal drawing of a young girl.
