Maria Spaeth, the former executive director of the Kendall County Food Pantry, has died.
According to DeKalb Coroner Dennis Miller, Spaeth, 52, was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich. The cause of death is pending an autopsy, which will take place Thursday, Miller said.
Spaeth had been at her vacation home at Lake Holiday when emergency crews were called to the home, Miller said. She was taken by ambulance to Valley West, he said.
Spaeth was the longtime head of the Food Pantry. She resigned June 7 in the midst of a Yorkville Police Department investigation into missing funds at the pantry.
On May 26, volunteers at the pantry came forward with allegations of “suspicious transactions” and theft of funds from food pantry accounts.
On June 1, police served search warrants at the pantry, 208 Beaver St. in Yorkville, as well as a private residence in Kendall County.
