Commuters through downtown Oswego will need to add a few more minutes to their daily drive starting Monday, Aug. 8.

Route 34 will be completely closed at the downtown railway crossing on Washington Street. The closure will last about one week, IDOT said.
During that time the state will work to rebuild the crossing.

Detours around the closure are as follows:
  • Westbound Route 34 will detour west on IL Route 71 to Orchard Road, then north on Orchard Road back to Route 34.
  • Eastbound Route 34 will detour south on Orchard Road to Route 71, then east on Route 71 back to Route 34.
In addition, South Adams Street also will be closed from West Washington Street to West Jackson Street. Motorists are urged to expect some delays while traveling the detour route.
