A long-sought-after steakhouse is eyeing an Oswego location, according to village documents.
Rod Zenner, community development director, confirmed Friday that Longhorn Steakhouse has proposed a location on the lot between Panda Express and Fifth Third Bank in the Prairie Market retail center along Route 34.
"They are looking at a March construction with an August (2017) opening," Zenner said.
On Wednesday, Zenner will present the village's Economic Development Commission with details of an economic incentive agreement the company is seeking.
Zenner said Longhorn is asking for half of the village's 1 percent share of sales tax annually for 10 years. That incentive would be capped at a total of $180,000.
Zenner said the village has been working with Longhorn for several months, and that the company plans a long-term lease on the Prairie Market property.
Longhorn Steakhouse opened its first location in Atlanta in 1981, and currently operates 450 locations nationwide. The closest Longhorn to Oswego is Bolingbrook.
