A 33-year-old Joliet woman received serious injuries in an accident that closed a portion of Route 30 for several hours Thursday night.

According to Dan Ferrelli, Aurora Police spokesman, a preliminary investigation has revealed the woman, who was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, attempted to make a left turn onto Route 30 from westbound Heggs Road at about 5 p.m. when she was struck by an oncoming semi traveling north on Route 30.

Both the car and the semi ended up on the west side of the road in a ditch, Ferrelli said.

The woman was extricated from the vehicle by Aurora Fire personnel and was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. She is expected to survive, Ferrelli said. The 58-year-old driver of the semi was uninjured, Ferrelli said.

Ferrelli said there were no initial signs of drugs or alcohol playing a role in the crash.

The road was opened to traffic at about 10 p.m.
