Aug 19, 2016 08:00AM ● Published by Steven Jack

Community Unit School District 308 has started the process of redrawing boundary lines for the state’s seventh largest school district and is seeking members for its Boundary Advisory Committee.

At its August 1, 2016 meeting, the Board of Education voted on its top criteria for determining school boundaries moving forward. They are:

1.    Projected enrollment/Building utilization
2.    Fiscal considerations related to operations
3.    Duration of boundaries
4.    Transportation services

The Boundary Advisory Committee will have five committee meetings and two public forums. The committee meetings will be held at 6 p.m. in the community room at Oswego East High School (OEHS). The meeting dates are:

  • September 6
  • September 15
  • October 13
  • October 20
  • November 10
It is important for Boundary Advisory Committee members to be able to attend all meetings.

The public forums will be held on November 1, at 7 p.m. at Traughber Junior High School and on November 2, at 7 p.m. at OEHS.

“The Boundary Advisory Committee is a great way for the district to work together with our stakeholders and members of the public, and it ensures that School District 308 residents and taxpayers are heard,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Sparlin said.  “Working together we can offer recommendations to the Board of Education that will positively impact the school system.”

Individuals interested in serving on the Boundary Advisory Committee can apply online. The Boundary Advisory Committee member application and more information can be found on the School District 308 website by clicking here or at the District 308 Administrative Center, 4175 Route 71, in Oswego. Applications will be accepted through August 21, and the Boundary Advisory Committee members will be announced on September 1.
