Oswego Says Goodbye to Longtime Veterans Advocate

Friends, family and fellow veterans gathered at the War Memorial in downtown Oswego Saturday for a full military send off for Oswego's Bradley "Steve" Barrett. 

Barrett, a U.S. Navy veteran, was the Superintendent of the Kendall County Veterans Assistance Commission and was a past post commander of the Oswego American Legion Post 675. He passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, at the age of 68 after battling cancer.

Barrett served as a Corpsman during both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. He retired after 23 years 
as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. While in service, Barrett earned many military honors, including the Purple Heart. 

Barrett is survived by his wife, two children, six grandchildren, his mother and four siblings. 

According to his obituary, Barrett's passions in life included volunteering, his grandchildren and traveling.
