An Oswego man died in a boating accident in Door County, Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 9.

According to Door County Sheriff Steve Delarwelle, police were called at about 11:50 p.m. Friday for a report of a boat crash on the shore of Lake Michigan near the town of Liberty Grove.

When they arrived, police found a 23-foot Powerquest boat had crashed into a large rock on the shore.

The owner of the boat, Vernon Rubenic, 54, of Oswego, was killed and a 40-year-old man from Washington Island, Wisconsin was seriously injured.

The crash is still under investigation by the Door County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

A Saturday autopsy revealed that Rubenic died from injuries caused by the accident, police said.
