Sep 12, 2016 07:33AM ● Published by Steven Jack

Several soccer players from Oswego High School took part Sunday, Sept. 11 in the Buddy's Helpers initiative that is part of the PepsiCo Showdown soccer tournament, which begins Tuesday, Sept. 13.

High school soccer players from around the Chicago area collected and donated 3,000 pairs of shoes to remember those killed on Sept. 11, 2001. The project is also meant to bring awareness to Chicago gun violence and the nearly 3,000 homeless youth (ages 13-17) in the city.

The 3,000 pairs of shoes were displayed at the Wills Tower on Sunday to mark the anniversary of 9/11. They will now be distributed to local homeless shelters.
