The rain date for this year’s cemetery walk will be Friday, Oct. 7, from 7-9 p.m.
Small groups of visitors will be guided through the cemetery in the dark to visit with the "ghosts" of early Oswego residents and pioneers at their gravesites.
“Ghosts” who will visit with participants during this year’s cemetery walk include Honer Hawley Jewel, wife of pioneer Oswego doctor, Daniel Jewel; Clarissa Foster Warner, wife of pioneer farmer Joel Warner; Elvirah Walker Shumway, cousin of Lauriston and Seth Walker, early Oswego pioneers and wife of James Shumway; and Mary Ann Wolf Minnich, who owned a boarding house and made rag rugs on her handmade loom.
Visitors are invited to arrive any time during the event’s hours. Small group tours and their docents will leave every 5-10 minutes, with the last tour leaving at 9 p.m. Those attending are urged to bring a flashlight, wear comfortable shoes, and expect moderate walking.
No registration is required for this free, family-oriented event.
Participants should park on Main Street and use the South Entrance to the cemetery.
