Most of Former Lowe's Space Gets New Tenant

Burlington will open in 44,000 square feet of the former Oswego Lowe's Home Improvement store.

After sitting empty for over five years, 44,000 square feet of Oswego retail space is getting a new tenant.
According to village documents, Burlington (formerly Burlington Coat Factory) is planning to locate in the space adjacent to Hobby Lobby in Oswego's Prairie Market shopping center along Route 34. The space has been vacant since Lowe's Home Improvement closed in 2011.

Rod Zenner, the village's community development director, said one smaller piece of space on the west end of the former Lowe's will remain vacant after Burlington opens.

By comparison, the Burlington store will be about 10,000 square feet smaller than Hobby Lobby, which opened in 2014.

There is no projected opening date, but the Burlington lease was finalized in the past couple of weeks, Zenner said. There will be no economic incentive given to Burlington for opening in Oswego.

According to the company's website, Burlington sells discounted name-brand merchandise, including clothing, home goods, toys and fragrances. The company operates 567 stores nationwide and is headquartered in New Jersey.
