Two 17-year-olds are facing felony charges after stealing a car and crashing it early Tuesday morning in Oswego.

According to Oswego Police spokeswoman Cathy Nevara, police were called to Route 30 and Harvey Road at about 7:10 a.m. for a report of a hit and run accident involving a stolen minivan traveling northbound on Route 30 and a small SUV traveling southbound.

Witnesses said two male teens wearing hoodies and dark jeans fled the scene on foot after colliding with the SUV driven by a 54-year-old Aurora woman. The woman was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The teens were last seen heading northeast toward Lincoln Station subdivision. Oswego Police began a search for the suspects with the help of a Aurora Police Canine Unit. A police canine search led officers north into Aurora and police located the teens about 3 miles north of the crash site.

Both were taken into custody at about 9:45 a.m. and taken to the Oswego Police Department.
They both face felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police said one of the teens is from Aurora and the other is from Chicago. The Aurora teen also was cited for no valid driver’s license, failure to yield and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

After processing at the Oswego Police Department, both teens were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
