LETTER: Village Wrong to Gamble on Alexander Lumber Property

Dec 08, 2016 02:56PM ● Published by Steven Jack

As an Oswego taxpayer and local business owner for 45 years I feel I have to address the Oswego Village Board's decision to acquire the former Alexander Lumber property for $1.4+ million.

This site is underlain with solid limestone, is flood prone, and not served with municipal sewer service. Prior developers have walked away from the site due to many problems such as limited utilities, and buried concrete from the previous structures. Now, with your and my taxpayer dollars, the village board is attempting to redevelop an already blighted site with a hope of success.

I object as a taxpayer for spending our money on a maybe project. If the board has that much extra funds on hand to gamble on real estate development that they are unqualified to understand, and complete, the money would be better spent on a tax reduction. Please let the trustees know how you feel about this project.
